Things Parker Says

We were talking about stuffing. My grandfather liked cornbread stuffing and my grandmother liked to have regular bread stuffing. We were talking about how my grandfather usually won that argument. Parker wanted to know why that was unusual. We said that the women usually win those kind of arguments. He said, "What!? Women get to decide what we like?!"

Christmas 2010

What a blessing to celebrate our Savior's birth! This is a busy time of year for us, but also one of our favorites. Our month is full of traditions and service. It has been fun.

My Dad flew up on the first official day of winter break. We spent the week just hanging out around the house and enjoying the time together. Anthony anxiously awaited Christmas morning, or more accurately, opening presents and gave us continual updates of the time until he could rip into them. I love giving gifts and was excited to see the boys' surprise and excitement.

On Friday night Rock Harbor had its annual Christmas Eve candlelight service. I love this service. It is one of my favorite of the year. It is so beautiful with all the candles and there is just a feeling of family and joy. It is a great way to start off the gift giving activities with a reminder of God's gift to the world.

When we got home from the service the boys got to open one gift. That gift is predetermined and it is always pjs. I grew up with this tradition and have passed it on to the boys. They are not thrilled with it! All I ask is that they open the gift, put them on, and smile for the camera. After that, they can do whatever they want with the pjs. They tolerate this tradition to make me happy. I appreciate that!

The boys went to bed and the wrapping started. We finally crawled into bed around 2am and the boys got us up at 6am. I was super excited to see the boys' reaction to each of their main gifts. Anthony got a Kinect for the Xbox 360. They were very hard to find and he knew that so he wasn't expecting it. Great surprise! We played a ton and today both Anthony and I are so sore. :) Anthony was also blessed with an airsoft gun. Thank you, Sven!

Parker's big excitement was in the form of an Xbox 360. It was a joint gift for the twins but Parker plays more than Tyler so he was most excited for it. The other big thing for him was the movie "Legend of the Guardians". He has the books and loved the movie. I kept him away from the movie section at Target so he wouldn't know it was out yet. I loved seeing his face when he opened it!

For Tyler, his wide eyed moment was when he opened The Death Star! It is a Lego set with almost 4000 pieces! The instruction book has 200 pages. He has wanted it for so long and was overwhelmed with excitement. He is almost done with it! We can't believe it. He totally rocks the Legos!!

Of course, these wonderful gifts could not have happened without the generosity of grandparents! We feel so blessed to be able to gift our boys with the things they wanted this season.

I also feel blessed this year. Brian bought me a beautiful camera that I have had so much fun using. My Dad's gift was unexpected! I felt like a kid again. He got me a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes! They are my dream shoes. I still can't believe it!!
Brian has been having fun with the helicopter he got. The dog doesn't like it and tries to snatch it out of the air!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed celebrating our King's birth!

Things Parker Says

Here is a new feature on my blog. Things Parker Says. Some of the things that come out of that boy's mouth crack me up. There are times when he speaks like an old man instead of the 10 year old he is.

I walked into the room to see how he was doing on his video game.
Me: How is it going?
Parker: Good. I have significantly increased my skill level.
Me: Naturally!

Another example:
Tyler and I were in the kitchen while Parker was in the next room playing on the computer. Tyler wanted to set Parker time. In our house, if you want to play computer or Xbox and someone is already using it, you can set them time, which is one hour. When that hour is up it is your turn to play. Tyler was complaining that he wanted to set Parker time, but if he did then Parker wouldn't let Tyler watch the game he was playing and Tyler really wanted to watch the game. Tyler was voicing his displeasure when from the other room we hear Parker yell, "It's just business, Tyler!"

I love you, Parker!

I had a very unsettling dream last night. I don't know where we were but there were a lot of people around and I couldn't find Parker. I kept searching in vain for him and no one would help me. The crowd starting slowly going home until there was no one left. I kept crying out for Parker but he wasn't there. That feeling left an ache in my chest. I woke up with that awful feeling. I immediately got out of bed and walked to Parker's room. He was asleep, safe and sound in his bed and relief washed over me.

Thank you, Lord for the safety of my boys!

Christmas Party

Our community group had our Christmas party on Wednesday. We had such a wonderful time. We shared a delicious meal together and had fun playing imaginiff. It is a great joy to share your lives with others. If you aren't in a community (or small) group I would encourage you to join one. It is a blessing.

Brian made a cheesecake for dessert. It was a hit. Everyone loved it. He cheated though. He had a helper!

Anthony is taking geometry as a middle schooler. It seems he has inherited his father's incredible math skills. That sound you hear right now is my Dad sighing with relief! When I took geometry in high school I got a D. There was a tutor and hard work involved in getting that D up from an F, thank you very much.

I picked Anthony up from school and he was telling me about the proofs he was doing in math. Right over my head! Just nod and smile! Later that evening proofs came up again and I stopped them to ask what a proof was. Brian started to explain it is a way to prove that two triangles are congruent. I interrupted him to ask what if you don't care if the triangles are congruent. He replied, "then you get a D!" Well played!

Decorating the tree, finally!

We finally decorated the Christmas tree last night. We have had it for a week but haven't been home. It was a crazy busy week. Glad it is over!

Back to the tree. Brian puts the lights on, I put the bows on and the boys do the rest. Rolo was of no help at all. He kept knocking the ornaments off the tree with his tail. On the positive side, he is a happy dog! As always, things started off nicely and then went downhill. The Boba Fett ornament was shooting the grandson ornament while C3PO ornament ran away. The Pluto ornament went on a biting spree and the Yoda ornament kept yelling "Degobah!"

There was a lot of laughing and I loved it. Good times!

Ready for the boys

Anthony putting a lot of effort into the decorating.

Like I said, downhill!
